Abstract

During Nara's internship with The Walrus, she had the opportunity to write a detailed analysis on Hollywood's treatment of historical figures in modern-day films. In the piece, Nara discusses this issue in the context of the newest film in the Harry Potter franchise: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Nara offers insightful commentary on the dangers of creating magical villains who mirror Nazi leaders in popular culture, while contextualizing the implications among the larger social issues of today's popular culture.
