Description

Unfortunately during the initial EC survey, the investigator assigned, Randy Mawson, skipped over an area between Norwich and Balmoral where the tornado could have tracked. (a distance of exactly 50km) Therefore it is unknown if the Norwich tornado continued for some distance, or was intermittent between the 2 areas. Answer may be revealed in radar or other meteorological data. However, a clear damage track was observed for about 25km from Balmoral to just west of Dunnville in Kohler. Here, the investigator (likely) backtracked to Cayuga and then down HWY17 along the Grand River toward Dunnville where he visited another known damaged property with 2 levelled barns with their debris thrown up to 3km. At this location, it seems most tornadic damage ended, but the investigator mostly stuck to main roads and almost exclusively HWY3 through Niagara where he saw only some straight-line wind damage from the gust front. From the damage which was observed along the entire track, the tornado was given a F1 rating but it was noted that some of the damage was definitely approaching F2 intensity.
