Description

A video description of my accomplishments as undergraduate summer research intern at Western University. The video presentation details my goals, research intent, topic background, research tasks, next steps, challenges, and growth. The research project that I worked on during the summer was developing a prospective, longitudinal study about the development of carcinoid heart disease (CHD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in neuroendocrine tumour (NET) patients.

Acknowledgements

I would like to thank the USRI committee for giving me the opportunity to pursue research during the summer under the direction of Dr. Stephanie Frisbee.

I would like to thank Dr. Frisbee for being my supervisor, giving me feedback, and always making sure I have the appropriate resources to achieve my research goals.

I would also like to give a special thank you to Dr. Robin Sachdeva, Dr. Elena Tsvetkova, and the rest of the research team for their help and feedback.

Comments

Although I was not able to mention and share everything that I accomplished in my presentation, I would like to detail it here. Through the USRI, I was able to develop a protocol, REB application, and supplementary documents, which included:

  • LOIs and Informed Consent forms for patients and control participants;
  • REDCap surveys for screening and data collection;
  • recruitment scripts for emails, newsletters, and telephone calls;
  • recruitment flyers for patients and control participants;
  • detailed figures providing a visual map of the recruitment process for patients and control participants respectively;
  • and a data collection chart

This experience helped inform my understanding of the research process and fulfilled my USRI goals for the summer, as detailed in my presentation.
