Description
In academia, the conditions for faculty to thrive are non-existent. Job insecurity, isolation, and the culture of universities have all played a role in what is seen as a mental health epidemic in academia. While the coronavirus pandemic has created challenges for all staff, many of these issues were pre-existing and are simply magnified by COVID-19. This paper addresses how we have gotten to this epidemic, how the coronavirus pandemic magnified the epidemic, and includes recommendations on how to change this culture of isolation.
