Abstract
This is a presentation about my EL experiences that took place throughout 2021. Firstly, I discuss my time as a coordinator in a program run by the Ottawa police called the Youth in Policing Initiatives program or the “YIPI” program. The YIPI program is a program for youth in high school and serves two main purposes: 1) to foster good relationships with the police and 2) to spark an interest in policing in youth. In this role, I helped out at a summer camp for underprivileged kids, as well as assisted my supervisors and police officers on group days which were different from week to week. My second EL credit was earned as a blog writer for a small film festival in London called the Forest City Film Festival (FCFF). My duties with FCFF consisted of watching lots of films, conducting interviews with filmmakers, and most notably writing blog posts which served as advertisements for certain films or collections of films. All of this was done leading up to the festival week, where I helped out at the festival by wiping down seats in between screenings, greeting guests, and doing similar mundane but critical tasks such as these.
Notes
This presentation was submitted in conjunction with a report as the final assignment for SASAH's Experiential Learning requirement. The live online presentation event occurred via Zoom on April 1, 2022, and is posted on the Experiential Learning page of SASAH’s website. The students subsequently recreated their presentations using VoiceThread for publication purposes.
