Description

A strong to violent long tracking tornado travelled roughly 50km SW-NE through Bruce and Grey Counties during the mid-afternoon of July 9. The supercell storm responsible likely developed over Lake Huron and tracked over the Kincardine/Port Albert vicinity as it was noted that the area was affected by the storm. It is unclear exactly where it first touched down but the Confirmation page gives a location of just north of Formosa and just southwest of Walkerton. The tornado was noted to have petered out to the NE of Markdale although storm damage occurred as far away as Collingwood and the Bracebridge area. Unsuspecting locals in the path of the storm in some cases did not even realize the tornado had struck their properties until damage was found. See newspapers and other collected documents for further reading.
