Abstract
This video essay looks at one symbol in the film, the train, which represents the ambiguous journey of the two main characters, Willy and Sayra. They embody the illegal immigrants fleeing from the problems they have to face in their own countries to an unknown future in the United States. While the train acts as a means of traveling, people hopping on top of it has absolutely no control of their journeys. Moreover, the video essay shows the immigrants’ struggles and failures to arrive in the United States that might even cost them their lives. The fact that they choose to leave their countries knowing the chance of making it across the border is slim conveys the social and political unsettlement in the Central American countries.
