Abstract

The increased usage of biomaterials continues to impact upon healthcare in our society. The two major problems limiting the insertion of these devices is infection and biocompatibility. Using the urinary tract as a model, this review examines the role of bacteria, suspending fluids and biomaterials in the process of adhesion leading to biofilm formation and infection. © 1992.
