Abstract

Although it has been known for 5 years that microbial biofilms exist in association with urological tissues and devices, one of several important advances made in the past year has been the heightened awareness of this phenomenon. The concept of biofilms is becoming better understood, and their impact on disease detection, prevention and treatment more fully appreciated.
