Abstract

Conventional wisdom appears still to hold that “the recording industry” is currently in a mortal “crisis” on account of rampant, digitally-enabled “piracy”. While recent Anglo-American scholarship pushes against this perception, suggesting that reports of the demise of the Los Angeles-centred recording industry have been exaggerated (e.g. Marshall 2012, 2013; Meier 2013), The International Recording Industries goes considerably further. The book offers an English-speaking readership concise accounts of an extremely diverse range of national recording industry histories, institutions, conventions and prospects that further challenge mainstream Anglo-American opinion.
