Abstract

The aim of this research is to provide clinicians, caregivers, and educators with a contextualized Islamic background in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT). This research presents Islamic spiritual resources to potentially be employed in clinical settings involving traumatized Muslim children and their caregivers. TF-CBT is used as a conveying channel of Islamic spiritual resources to clinicians. Mindfulness and Cognitive Coping are the two aspects of TF-CBT used in this research for Islamic contextualization. The mindfulness chapter addresses Sufism’s relevancy and potential contribution of relaxation techniques as an Islamic spiritual resource. The cognitive coping chapter distinguishes the caregiver’s perspective from the child’s perspective, and each is discussed independently. The current research relies heavily on Qur’anic verses, alongside Prophetic teachings, to facilitate simple and accessible spiritual intervention. This research does not attempt to scrutinize TF-CBT or enforce theological positions on clinicians and Muslim families. Rather, its aim is to respond to the increasing demand for culturally competent therapeutic interventions to support the recovery process of traumatized Muslim children and their caregivers.
