Abstract
In this issue, you will find a wide range of diverse types of research. At the Journal of Hand Therapy (JHT), we select studies for publication in the JHT based on quality and impact on hand therapy. Impact is one of the most challenging decisions that the review team makes when deciding to accept, or not accept, an article for publication. Many academic journals try to accept articles that they think will be cited the most because a high-impact factor is a prize accomplishment for journals. We know that systematic reviews that address content that applies to a broad array of disciplines are most likely to be highly cited. However, although we value these evidence reviews when they are relevant to hand therapy, we also accept and value the whole spectrum of hand therapy science. Highly relevant articles that support clinicians in providing better care are not always the ones that are highly cited. So, we consider both quality and impact on hand therapy practice during the review process.
