Western Libraries Inclusive Language Guide

Through inclusive language, we honour lived experiences and reflect a community where everyone is equally valued. This means language that is free from words and sayings that demean individuals or reinforce prejudice as a form of violence against cultures or people. The Western Libraries Inclusive Language Guide helps inform a framework around inclusive communication and can be used to help make mindful and respectful language choices. While this guide promotes thoughtfulness and openness about how language is used, it should not be treated as definite or finite. Its authors make every reasonable effort to update this document with the most current terminology and invite feedback: wl-ediguide@uwo.ca.
