Cover art, by Joe Kim, '96, depicts the practice of draping crosses near coastal margins to warn passing ships of the presence of epidemic infections in Europe and South America. The cover is a mixed media painting of a cross on the seashore at Lima, Peru from a photograph taken during the Peruvian cholera epidemic, part of the seventh cholera pandemic, which claimed 500,000 lives worldwide in 1991-92.
