I certainly learned about communications as a communications intern, and I certainly learned about copywriting as an intern copywriter at Osborne Holdings. However, what resonates the most with me a year after completing my experiential learning credits are not job-focused skills. Instead, what resonates the most with me are the things I learned about responsibility, valuing my skillset, and leadership.

As an intern with SASAH, I learned that communication is not just a skill; it is a responsibility. I learned this as I ran the SASAH Instagram page through a school year that was cut short because of the COVID-19 virus, followed by an anxiety-ridden summer and a school year full of social distancing and online classes. As an intern copywriter, I worked directly with the founder of Osborne Holdings. For eight weeks I had the unique opportunity to watch an expert at his craft developing and implementing marketing strategies for various international clients. In doing so, I learned about what true leadership looks like.

Today, with two internships behind me, I am confident in the value that my peers and I will bring into the workforce as humanities graduates. The world needs communicators and the world needs socially conscious leadership now more than ever. I am proud and excited to see all that my peers will accomplish.

This presentation was submitted in conjunction with a report as the final assignment for SASAH's Experiential Learning requirement. The live online presentation event occurred via Zoom on November 26, 2021, and is posted on the Experiential Learning page of SASAH’s website. The students subsequently recreated their presentations using VoiceThread for publication purposes.
