Workplace Privacy in the Private Sector: An Examination of Electronic Surveillance Technologies in Canada and the United States

Christina Catenacci, Western University

Description

I first discuss the problem that exists in the employment context, and my approach to resolving the issues by conducting legal research concerning privacy in the workplace

I then explain how my project ultimately became interdisciplinary. I literally made interdisciplinary connections in my last year of the program because my project combining philosophy of privacy and the design thinking process in order to resolve the issues and design a proposed privacy strategy for the employment context in Canada for nonunionized and unionized employment

I have completed a draft of the dissertation now, so I can talk about what I propose. I propose that Canada have workplace privacy legislation and a policy for nonunionized and unionized employment in Canada. The legislation would apply to all workplaces in the private sector, and all of these workplaces are to adopt and incorporate the policy in their workplaces (with an option to add more provisions that are tailored to the specific work environment)
