Abstract
The Stay On Your Feet (SOYF) program is a multi-strategic community-based fall prevention program. Baseline data collection took place in January 2004 prior to the onset of community initiatives aimed at increasing knowledge and changing behaviours and attitudes of community-dwelling older adults about falls and fall prevention. Follow up data collection took place in November 2005, at the end of the two-year program. SOYF was found to be effective in increasing knowledge and changing attitudes and behaviours. In addition to the SOYF program, a second study was conducted to gain insight into the thought processes of older adults when asked to retrospectively recall an event on personal fall history. A qualitative inquiry was conducted into how older community-dwelling women think through answering the question of how many times they had fallen in the past 12 months. Most women relied on episodic memory to recall fall events and form their answer
