09:57:14 >>SOPHIE: Awesome, thank you so much. 09:57:17 All right, we can go to the first slide. 09:57:25 Awesome, so good morning everyone. 09:57:26 It's an honor to be presenting to you guys on this topic today. 09:57:29 My name is Sophie Thompson and I'm a third-year student at Huron University College. 09:57:53 This presentation will be focusing mainly on the London women's history group in the GIS story map my classmates created to help educate our society and the triumphs and women have accomplished and understand this tremendous impact these women have had on our lives in the community spirit 09:57:57 in our course making waves history of women's activism we were informed of what the London women's history group and their new biographical book about London feminist called voices of change. 09:58:13 Previously history students from Huron have helped to design a website about these women and make a static map that relates where certain historical organizations and events took place. 09:58:15 Fast-forward almost 10 years later in our class is remodeling and updating this website. 09:58:22 My role for this product that was on the communications team. 09:58:28 The purpose of the communications team was to promote and publicize the London women's history group and gain more public transit attraction toward website. 09:58:43 In order to achieve these goals, the communication team establish multiple social media accounts which went to the northern Western newspaper the Gazette hung up posters around campus and provided announcements both orally and on to students and faculty of Western University and the affiliates. 09:58:57 The London's women's history foot put the project not only cultivates better appreciation for London women's achievements but also connects to the things of our course. 09:59:16 The course material exports women activism through temperance, abolition, labor, peace and civil rights focusing predominantly on North American women placed in the wider context of the Atlantic world. 09:59:26 Throughout the course we have questioned and evaluated history of graphical debates around women's activism recognizing the sources that interpretive framework set of shape the ways in which women's history is written and ways it is been forgotten and we considered the contemporary relevance of engaging with the history of women's activism. 09:59:32 . 09:59:35 We were able to ask ourselves questions and surges how does the definition of feminism change over time. 09:59:46 How do class rate and identity intersect with assumptions about gender woman in the public sphere? 09:59:47 As well as how does our understanding of Canterbury women's movements change when informed by history? 10:00:05 By analyzing and assessing these questions and course themes our class is able to encompass more extensive comprehension of women's activism, specifically North America, but also a better awareness of how we as the next generation 10:00:08 can better commemorate women's accomplishments and have a stronger insight into the political and social reformations made due to women's persistence. 10:00:27 An interesting part about the London's women's history group project is our gift to update the map on the website and turn it into an archival level information GIS assortment that can be expanded or contracted if wanted. 10:00:43 One of the reasons why our class decided to update the map into a story map was because we believe a story map is able to illustrate pretrade the importance, sorry, of physical space by using historical images to illustrate the authentic reality and by using narratives to discuss interaction and movement between multiple seemingly isolated points of the existing out. 10:00:54 ArcGIS StoryMaps are an immersive media narrative that allows us to communicate these historical accomplishments made by women in a fascinating and interactive way. 10:01:04 So since the beginning of the remodeling of the website, we have maintained the 21 original points from the first map. 10:01:21 As you can see on your screen, there's an original map from the previous lender women's history group, and on our now updated map with a ton of different points, we plan on revising this information depicted on the original and updating it to be more accessible and understandable. 10:01:37 The organizations and people that are represented in this map include various women's groups, movements associations, anyone that impacted London's laws, treatments, institutions, anything to do with women. 10:01:41 Most of the organizations different political and social action regarding women's education, safety, job stability and the overall role. 10:01:48 If I could get Doctor Tim Compeau to move to the 10:01:48 . 10:01:53 If you look to the screen I have an example of one of our entries from the improved story map. 10:02:01 Here is point number eight, so the London's status of women action group. 10:02:13 This was active from 1988 to 2006 and was an organization that joint sponsor women quality events and brought awareness to the unjust treatment of women in the workforce, household and political room. 10:02:16 Every entry on this map has a specific location as to where it took place and a detailed paragraph referencing the organizations effects on the city. 10:02:28 By looking at on the screen you can see that you consume in, zoom out, there's a good chunk of paragraph to learn about each part. 10:02:30 And they tell you exactly and what part of London it was located and performed. 10:02:46 Overall, this project has had a substantial impact on London's women history website and the influence there of payments made on women. 10:03:00 The GIS story map is a vital characteristic for this website because it brings attention to the immense history of London women, allows us the viewers to experience history in a different form of communication, propels women's history into a more visible light, provides resources and knowledge for further research and prioritizes 10:03:09 precise information without unnecessary features and material throughout it, making this way of learning easier, more accessible and enjoyable. 10:03:22 Lastly before I go, I'd like to give a tremendous thank you to Ben Harris, Richard management and A for improving and modernizing London women's group map. 10:03:23 They put a lot of hard work into making the story map as amazing as it is, so I would like to give them a huge round of applause. 10:03:27 Again everyone for listening to my presentation, and I look forward to any questions you have.
