09:43:12 >>CLAUDIA: All right, hello everybody. 09:43:20 My name is Claudia, fourth-year student at Huron study history and French. 09:43:27 I am speaking from London Ontario and I would just like to acknowledge that I am wanted traditional lands of the (name?) and when did peoples. 09:43:31 I would also acknowledge the presence of these indigenous peoples within this land is shared with today. 09:43:40 I myself am a multigenerational settler and I do not have any (name?) heritage. 09:43:44 I would like to take this time to apologize in advance for any mispronounced or misspelled words throughout my presentation. 09:43:49 I am learning every day both for my history classes here at hearing and from the fellowship project. 09:44:00 Simply put, this project is about creating maps of historical significance to the Munsee Delaware nation. 09:44:00 To meet the goal of the project is to tell the story of the Munsee Delaware people in a format that is not been done before. 09:44:10 The goal is to map the history of the Munsee Delaware people and attempts to trace patterns and historical themes of language, ceremony, treaty, colonial violence and disease. 09:44:15 My personal goal is to tell the story as quickly as possible and learn as much as I can along the way. 09:44:22 I've entitled this map Munsee Delaware map and of the working and learning from (name?) about the history of the Munsee Delaware people. 09:44:32 I will now take you to chief Mark peters Facebook page. 09:44:34 My been working and learning from chief Mark peters from his videos on Facebook about Munsee Delaware history. 09:44:51 He described the life of Munsee Delaware prior to contact with Europeans and they will eventually go into the modern-day. 09:45:00 Generally speaking, watch a video and to write down sites of historical significance along with the timestamp in the video and what he describes about the place, which will all become the description of the location on the map. 09:45:08 Oftentimes by then research a little bit about what locations chief peters is referring to and I try to find a perfect geographical coordinates the maps area. 09:45:12 This task can be a bit difficult to detect names of traditional lands areas and peoples. 09:45:20 In order to make this map I have been using the ArcGIS survey 123 software. 09:45:23 So here you can see my survey. 09:45:30 As you can see him it is pretty simple. 09:45:31 I am the only person able to add points to the map right now. 09:45:45 The points that I make are then reviewed by chief peters and myself and together we fact check different dates, information, and we assure that the map is as accurate as possible. 09:45:54 So as you can see the survey is a relatively easy and can also be manager of the survey 123 Web app which allows me to make any changes necessary and review my information that is on the map. 09:46:04 So I will now take you to our Munsee Delaware dashboard over here. 09:46:11 All right, so the dashboard here as you can see has a lot going on. 09:46:11 On the dashboard you will see that the points of significance are categorized by different colors, so the part here. 09:46:22 So this blue in here for example is a historic community which essentially just makes a group of people who have lived there but have since moved to a different location. 09:46:28 On the right-hand side of the map you will see that we have four little maps. 09:46:40 That kind of highlights the ideal paths that we are trying to look out, and so some of the points here fall into more than one of these categories. 09:47:15 For example, if I wanted to check out the peacemakers point here, which is a point about the Munsee Delaware making a treaty with the five nations, for this point I've considered both related to treaties and related to colonial violence, because it's about a treaty that they have to make in order to protect them from the oncoming Europeans. 09:47:15 There are also several points on this map that do not have any of the categories related to them. 09:47:27 For example, if I was looking for our Valley chiefs, this is a point about the chiefs who were active during the seven years war. 09:47:30 It is just a description of the Chiefs and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with any of our five categories here. 09:47:39 On this site here I am able to filter the map in many different ways. 09:47:42 So as you have been sent, I can type into the top box here. 09:47:50 For example if I were looking for a big house ceremony I can type it in there, pull up the points and that is what it will look like. 09:48:02 However, I was looking for all points of that were related to ceremonies, I would click here related to ceremonies, yes, and then you can see that it filters my map through the different ceremonies there. 09:48:14 There's also a later search by things that I've designated a ceremonial grounds. 09:48:15 So if I click here on ceremonial grounds only have a few of those points but it shows up there. 09:48:29 I am also able to select multiple of what things are related to because as I mentioned before, there are some things that are related to more than one section. 09:48:34 So yes related to treaties and yes related to colonial violence. 09:48:35 Then I can search through that way as well. 09:48:38 I am also able to filter by date. 09:48:47 So if I wanted to pick a start here that was a minimum of 1800, I could type it in their. 09:48:57 However, most of our points are a minimum of 1800, so it doesn't change too much. 09:49:08 So the majority of points on this map right now are filtered over here in and out, in the areas of New Jersey and New York along the two rivers called the Delaware and the Lehigh River. 09:49:25 So I shall think the majority of our points along here are running along rivers, which reflects where the communities used to (so as of right now, I am only at the seven years war in these videos. 09:49:25 Chief peters has about 45 videos and I watched about 26 of them. 09:49:30 Soon the map has 126 points on it right now. 09:49:39 But as you can see, we haven't quite moved into Ontario yet. 09:49:43 So eventually some point London will be covered with different points similarly to the points that you see over here in New York. 09:49:49 So before I and I would just like to take this time to thank a few people. 09:49:56 I would like to thank chief peters for his willingness to share his knowledge and helping with this map. 09:50:04 I would also like to thank my advisor timepiece as well as Liz Sutherlin and Jordan Fuller. 09:50:07 I would like to thank you all for listening and invite you to ask as many patients and provide as much feedback as you can.
