Effect of Sexual Arousal on Assessment of Risk

Authors

Colin Smith

Abstract

Based on past research stating that judgement and decision making are distorted by sexual arousal, as well as research demonstrating that sexual arousal leads to greater sexual risk-taking, this study tested the hypothesis that participants would rate see all behavior as less risky when sexually aroused. ANOVAs were performed regarding all behaviors from the Physical Risk Assessment Inventory scores as well as just the sexually relevant behaviors, and no statistical significance was found. Experimental design drawbacks and suggestions for future research are discussed.
