Abstract
After 10 years as a public health nurse in rural Saskatchewan, Dr. Beverly Leipert went into academia, completing a Masters of Science in Nursing degree at the University of British Columbia and a PhD in nursing at the University of Alberta. While working as a nurse, she realized that certain populations like rural women did not have a voice in discussions related to public healthcare issues. She is now a professor at Western University, exploring the effects of different factors on the health of rural community populations. Diana Varyvoda, Reviewer on the Editorial Board, interviewed Dr. Leipert in order to learn more about her research, experiences in academia and future directions in healthcare research.
